About

I am a Washington DC based photographer and visual artist who specializes in working with black and white film. As part of my practice, I employ this medium to explore how "modern" images rendered in a traditional photographic form can impart a dreamlike quality, and play on our senses of what is "modern" versus "vintage." If the colorization of an old black and white image can close a sense of a time gap for modern audiences, does printing photographic art in black and white make contemporary events seem timeless or distinctly of a past time?

I also explore how images in black and white create a sense of a portal - multiple realities - within a captured moment. I believe a compelling photograph not only “captures the moment,” but can suggest a truth or a possibility about the world that might not otherwise be remembered or even noticed in the first place. This also accounts for my preference for working with black and white film, as this enhances the dreamlike, timeless quality to the captured moment. It conveys the sense that just as in dreams, anything can be possible and everything may not be what it seems.
